Dirt, D-I-R-T, Dirt it is what makes america great

Dirt, D-I-R-T, Dirt, what a word, it looks awkward, it sounds awkward and it can have negative connotations at times. To me, in the context unto which I am about to explain this word, it has so much more meaning; Dirt represents the success of millions of people, it represents happiness, and it represents the foundation of the strongest government and democracy of modern times.

When I think of America and what made this country into what it is today, I think of a bunch of things; I think of a group of headstrong people that were tired of being told what to do, I think of the great foresight and wisdom of the founding fathers of our nation, but most of all I think of the abundance of natural resources that blanket this country with prosperity.

Without our wealth of natural resources found on American soil, would our nation be as successful as it is today? Would we be respected and admired for the life we have created for every American citizen? I do not know, but I assure you that without the natural resources in America, we would not be the nation you see today.

Every type of habitat I can think of, found on this earth, is found in America. We have swamps, forest, deserts, grasslands, and everything in between, within these habitats sit the key to our countries development, it resources. From the very beginning, America had the ability to be self-sufficient. We were under no bondage to trade partners, for we had all the resources we needed within our borders to evolve into something so much more. We had a myriad of forests, minerals, water, and arable land. The only thing we did need was time, to completely develop and exploit these resources for our growth. With this wealth of resources, we created cities and railroads. We expanded our people across the country and had them work the land to feed our nation. We feed our nation and realized we could feed so many more. We turned to trade, shipping out our surplus of the finest virgin wood, and food from untouched black soil. Foreign money added to our countries power and wealth and we grew. Our railroads connected our nations resources and efficiently and cost effectively united our resources to our customers, demanding for the rich earthly possessions within our borders.

With every train load of minerals, and ever drum of oil produced, our nations prosperity grew. People’s quality of life increased and we moved the hands from the farm to the city because we had machines to do the work of many men.

I hope our nation never loses sight of this truth, that our resources are the foundation to our prosperity. So many other countries around the world are reliant on people from outside of their borders to provide food, energy, and other goods. We are very fortunate in America, since we have the capacity to be self-sustaining. We don’t have to live under bondage or control of another country. Although, if we don’t protect the resources we have, we may become reliant on other countries, like so many other nations are around the world.

Now as we progress into the 21st century, I hope we will always remember the importance of the natural resources found in America. Without the soil, water, forest, and minerals that can be found in abundance here, America would be a much different place. This why I hope we protect the resources we have today so America’s children can prosper generations from now.

These children have every right to the quality of life and quality of resources found in our country today. To leave them with something less is almost criminal, for they have no control over the actions of those who have come before they were born. Now it is up to us to be guardians of the land they will inherit, so they too, may one day be able to enjoy the land in health and beauty like we do today.
